  Notes	Funeral Obsequies of Hannah DeWitt The Mechanicsburg Journal says the funeral obsequies of Hannah DeWitt, more generally known and hailed as "Aunt Hannah," took place on Sunday last, in the lecture room of the Church of God. The spacious room was filled with our best and most intelligent citizens, who came to do honor to the memory of one whom they had known for so long a time, and respected as a "good, honest old soul." "Aunt Hannah" was the daughter of Boston and Peggy Loudon, the slaves of John Galbreath, who afterwards sold them to Christian Collman, the grandfather of our esteemed townsman of the same name. "Aunt Hannah" was sold to Sheriff John Carothers, who held her as his property until she was twenty-eight years of age when, in compliance with the Act of March, 1780, she was declared free. She has been for many years a resident of this place, and well known to the last three generations. Her bodily infirmities and old age for the last decade necessitated her being dependent on the public for subsistence, and it is needless to say that she never asked for anything. Revs. D. A. L. Laverty and A. Swartz were the officiating clergymen. She was interred in the colored cemetery, a few miles south of town. The deceased was about 109 years of age.
