  Notes	John Henry Barton "7th Regiment, United States Colored Infantry Company H The son of John & Ann Barton (Ann was thirty years younger than John), in 1860 he was a laborer living with and/or workthe for the William Todd family in Creagerstown District, Frederick County, Maryland. He stood 5' 4" tall and had black hair, black eyes, and a black complexion. A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Frederick, Maryland, September 28, 1864, as a private with Co. H, 7th U.S. Colored Troops. Over a period of months, he was charged for a lost or damaged canteen, knapsack, haversack, and cup pouch and then bought those items at discharge time. He was hospitalized from July 6 through September 20, 1865, and honorably discharged with his company November 15, 1865, at Indianola, Texas, at which time the army charged him $35.90 "on account of clothing by mistake."
