  Notes	James Nathan Mercer married Rachel Hawkins on October 14, 1899 in Alleghany County, PA. They were the parents of two children, James M., born May 2, 1900, and Mildred, born Dec. 28, 1902. Obituary from the Harrisburg, PA Patriot, Jan. 14, 1911, p. 1 Husband and Wife Die of Tuberculosis on Same Day Couple on Their Way to Mt. Alto Sanitarium When Death Overtook Them Nathan Mercer, aged thirty-five years, and his wife, Mrs. Rachel Mercer, aged thirty-seven years, died yesterday in this city of tuberculosis. Both man and wife were residents of Pittsburg and were on their way to Mount Alto to the State Tuberculosis Sanitorium. They had been suffering from tuberculosis for some months and had recently made application for admission to the sanitorium. They were told they could be admitted shortly and a few days ago left their home in the Western part of the State and came here to the home of Mrs. Mercer’s mother, Mrs. Harriett Hawkins, of 150 Balm Stret. Yesterday morning Mr. Mercer succumbed to the disease and he was followed by his wife who died last evening. A double funeral will be held on [January 15th], the services being held at the house in which the deaths occurred, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.
