  Notes	Might be Co. B Whether born free or slave is not known at this time. He married Ellen lnu. and reportedly fathered Mary (b. @1852 {?] - allegedly born in Maryland, which is questionable.) In 1860, he was presumably living in Kentucky, although the John Dupee found in that census was eighteen years of age. A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of thirty-eight at Camp Nelson, Jessamine County, Kentucky, July 13, 1864, and mustered into federal service there July 14 as a private with Co. K, 116th U.S. Colored Troops. Admitted to the hospital at Fortress Monroe, Virginia, on or about May 23, 1865, he there discharged the service by surgeon's certificate to date June 14, 1865. The Co. H on the tombstone is almost certainly incorrect as there is no mention of that company in his compiled military service records. To confuse matters, there was another John Dupee of about the same age who served with Co. E, same regiment. The 1870 census for Woodford County, Kentucky, shows a John Dupee living with and/or working as a farm hand for the wealthy Jacob Harper family, although it is not 100% certain it is he. When and why he may have moved to Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, is unknown. No obituary was found in any online newspaper archive. A pension file is located at the National Archives in Washington DC that doubtless would answer some questions, but those documents remain behind covid-locked doors.
