NEGRO HELD FOR COURT.
Serious Crime Is Charged Against Him.
Robert Andrews, a negro, was arrested and locked up on Saturday night on a serious charge preferred by Ruth Virginia Pondexter, a 13-year-old colored girl, by Detective Joseph Gore.
Andrews adopted the girl several years ago at Martinsburg, W. Va., and when his relations with the girl were discovered his wife made information against him. Andrews skipped out, taking the girl with him. On Saturday night he applied at Mumma's Row for shelter and when refused he and the girl boarded a trolley car for Middletown.
They went to the home of some friends in Rife's row, where they asked to occupy one room. They were refused. A telephone message was sent to Steelton and Detective Gore was sent for them. When the officer arrived they were about to leave the town.
Andrews was given a hearing this morning before Squire Dunkle and held without bail for court. He was taken to the Harrisburg jail by Detective Gore.
The girl was given in charge of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hamilton, who stood good for her appearance at court.
