Company: C Length of service: 1 Yrs The son of George and Mary Frances (Dennes) Adley, he married Mary Goldsbury or Goldsborough (el al) and fathered Hiram (b @1849), Elizabeth (b. 04/09/1857), David (b. 09/02/1858), John (b. @1865), Peter N. (b. 12/25/1865), Lenoras (b. @1868), and Margaret (b. 06/29/1872 - married a Maxwell). In 1860, he was a laborer living with his family in Dillsburg, York County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 5" tall with dark hair and black eyes. A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg February 6, 1865, as a private with Co. C, 24th U.S. Colored Infantry, promoted to corporal August 9, 1865, and honorably discharged with his company October 1, 1865. His older brother Samuel enlisted on the same day and served in the same company.
