  Notes	Charles E. Webster, one of York's oldest residents, a Civil War veteran who was born in slavery, was found dead in the bedroom at his home, 147 Grant Street, early yesterday morning. Death is believed to have been due to apoplexy. The body of the aged negro was found by his sister, Mrs. Anna McCormick, who resided with him, when she went to his room to awaken him. The aged veteran was a resident of this city ever since he ran away from his owner, before the outbreak of the Civil War. He was a resident of the West End for about 35 years and was well known and highly esteemed by residents of that section of the city. He was 82 years old. Charles E. Webster was born a slave on the Shipley plantation, in Frederick County, Md., but was sold later to the owner of the Buckey plantation, near Buckeyville, Md. His master was a tanner and Charles was taught the trade. Some time before the outbreak of the war he escaped from his owner and came to this city. When the war was declared he enlisted in the 25th United States Infantry and served as a private until the end of the war. After the cessation of hostilities he returned to this city and resumed his occupation as a tanner. He was employed, for many years, at the old Baugher tannery, well known to older residents of the city. Mrs. McCormick, his sister, is the only surviving relative. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 o'clock from his late residence. Services will be held in Bethel African Methodist Episcopal church. Interment will be made in Lebanon cemetery.
